FA Announces Punishment for Liverpool Star Alisson Becker

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been fined £8,000 by the Football Association (FA) for his conduct following the Reds’ 2-2 Premier League draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on August 29.

The Brazilian goalkeeper was seen kicking the electronic substitution board near the tunnel after the final whistle, causing damage to the equipment. The incident came after a frustrating sequence of events during the match, which saw Liverpool’s planned triple substitution delayed before Forest quickly restarted play and won a penalty.

Alisson had earlier been booked for protesting during the incident, while the penalty he conceded after bringing down former Liverpool defender Neco Williams was later judged to have been incorrectly awarded by the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents Panel. The panel voted 3-2 that the penalty should not have been given, although it unanimously agreed that VAR was correct not to intervene.

The FA subsequently charged Alisson with misconduct. The 33-year-old accepted the charge and received the standard £8,000 fine.

Liverpool will now move on from the incident as they prepare for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Fulham at Anfield.
