Jeremy Jacquet has received his first senior call-up to the France national team
Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet has received his first senior call-up to the France national team after making an encouraging start to life at Anfield.
New France head coach Zinedine Zidane named Jacquet in his first squad on Friday, September 18, for the upcoming Nations League fixtures. The 21-year-old is among several players receiving their first senior call-up as Zidane begins his tenure.
Jacquet joined Liverpool from Stade Rennais during the summer after progressing through the club's academy and making 33 senior appearances for Rennes. He also spent around a year on loan at Clermont Foot and represented France at youth level, including with the Under-21s.
Since arriving at Anfield, Jacquet has had regular opportunities in Andoni Iraola's side. He started the Reds' Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid and also featured from the beginning against Fulham in the Premier League.
His performances have now earned recognition at international level, with Zidane including him in a 23-man France squad for the upcoming Nations League matches.
The call-up represents another step in the center-back development since his move to Merseyside. He will now have the opportunity to work with the senior France squad and compete for his first international appearance.
For the Reds, his inclusion adds another international commitment to the squad during the upcoming break, while Jacquet will be looking to build on his early progress at Anfield.
His first opportunity to represent France at senior level could come during the Nations League fixtures beginning later this month.
