Mamadou Sakho join Crystal Palace on loan |
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has joined Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season.
Sakho, who has spent much of the season playing with Liverpool’s under-23s, was banished from the first team by manager Jurgen Klopp after a breach of club rules during a pre-season tour of America.
Liverpool were desperate to offload Sakho in a permanent deal but refused to budge on their £20million valuation of the Frenchman and since allowed Sakho to leave on a temporary basis to link up with Sam Allardyce’s side.
It is believed that Crystal Palace will pay Sakho’s wages in full and have stumped up an initial £2million
loan fee.
Earlier in the week the 26-year-old defender revealed the details of his bust-up with Klopp and accepted the mistakes he has made at Anfield.
‘It is true that I turned up late. There was a rule that I should have observed. I do not at all see myself as above the rules, I respect everyone,’ he said.
‘I paid my fine, I was sanctioned, I apologised to my team-mates and my manager. Aside from that… I do not want to go into the controversies.’
Sakho, who joined Liverpool from Paris Saint Germain for £18m in September 2013, was hit with a drugs ban at the end of last season but saw the ruling overturned on appeal.
