Jamie Carragher thirsty for Liverpool tie with Barcelona in Champions League draw

Carragher want Liverpool to face Barcelona in Champions League quarter-finals

Despite Chelsea humiliating defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday night  the former Red is adamant his old club should be drooling at the prospect of pitting themselves against the best in the world.

With the quarter final selection being made this morning, Liverpool make up a daunting last eight along with Manchester City, the two Spanish giants, Bayern, Juve, Sevilla and Roma.

He said: “I wish I was still playing now, I’d love to go to the Nou Camp and play against Messi and have that experience and see where it took you. I’d love the chance to test myself against the best.

“You should be excited if you got Barcelona after watching how exciting they were - and Messi was - the other night, that’s exactly the excitement of playing Champions League football. It’s what you’re there for.”

“Honestly, it wouldn’t worry me too much who Liverpool were drawn against,” he added.

“You’re four games away from a final, two of those would be at Anfield and you’d have to fancy yourself at Anfield, with Liverpool’s record at home. It will be a tough game for any side who comes there.”

Jamie Carragher was among a Liverpool team that recorded victory over both Spanish giant some years ago in the Champions League.
