Host nation, Egypt, were knocked-out by South Africa on Saturday at the Round-16 stage of the ongoing Afcon 2019 tournament after conceding a late goal from the Bafanas.

Their 1-0 defeat means Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will be packing his bags soon to be back for Jurgen Klopp's men ahead of the upcoming season.

The Reds returned for pre-season training this week ahead of their first friendly against Tranmere Rovers on Thursday July 11.

Salah's imminent return, however, does not subject him to swing into immediate action with his Liverpool team mates as he is expected to be granted an extended break after an extremely busy season.

The Liverpool Echo claim the Egyptian will be out for the Reds in six pre-season friendlies that include their tour to the United State.

It means he will be excluded from games against: Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City in the UK, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Sporting Lisbon in the USA, and Napoli in Edinburgh.
