Jamie Carragher slams Liverpool defence after win against Norwich

Jamie Carrangher believe Virgil van Dijk wasn't happy with his fellow Liverpool stars in their PL opener against Norwich City

Liverpool kicked off the Premier League campaign on Friday evening with a 4-1 win over Norwich City at Anfield.

A seemingly pass for Jurgen Klopp's side who are expected to compete for the England's elite trophy this season.

Goals from Divock Origi, Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk followed on from Grant Hanley’s own-goal to give the Reds a comfortable victory.

But during the game the Canaries carved out several chances to score, with Van Dijk being more and more incensed by his defensive partners for leaving huge areas unchecked at the back.

Teemu Pukki scored the away side's only goal in a less exciting second-half, in which Andy Robertson failed to get up the pitch alongside his team-mates.

And Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher revealed after the match why the Dutch defender wasn't overly happy.

"I am sure when Jurgen Klopp goes through the game tomorrow he will think they need to be tighter," Carragher said on Sky Sports.

"Van Dijk was not happy at times with different players dropping off and pushing on.

"It wasn't the solid backline that we saw so much last season.

"It's not just today against Norwich, and you can say maybe they have taken it easy.

"But you look at the Community Shield against Manchester City and also pre-season didn't go as well as you would have liked defensively.

"It will come back, but from Liverpool's point of view, you want it to come back quickly because you don't want to be looking like a team who starts to concede goals as that puts doubt throughout the side."
