Manchester United were close to signing Bobby Duncan before sealing a deadline move to Fiorentina

The former Liverpool youth player was eager for the Reds sanction his exit during the summer window.

Duncan's push to experience life elsewhere was further heated by his agent Salif Rubie when he claimed that Liverpool sporting Director Micheal Edwards is mentally assaulting the 18-year-old by tying him down against his will.

However, a recent revelation by Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito has made clear that Duncan during his pressure days under the Reds had the chance to join bitter rivals Manchester United but turned the opportunity down in the respect of the European Champions.

Morabito told Sportsmail of the options that the youngster had on the table before sealing a deadline move to Serie A side Fiorentina.

"It all started in April. Saif contacted me and we set to work to find new accommodation for Bobby,' he said. "The boy did not want to betray Liverpool and said no to United who insisted so much with him.

"He could have gone to Lazio but relations with Liverpool are very bad and nothing was done.

"(Lazio manager) Simone Inzaghi would have made him grow a lot and I hope he is like that with (Fiorentina boss) Vincenzo Montella."

Morabito also said he is working hard to ensure the England international settles into his new surroundings.

"Soon we will see Fiorentina in order to find the best Italian school for him and to give him serenity in this acclimatization phase," he continued.

"He may be the new Pogba. Fiorentina has made a deal and Liverpool have lost one of the five best English products in the recent history of the Premier League."
