More details emerge on Joe Gomez and Raheem Sterling exchange behind scene

Both England stars confronted each other in a canteen but Raheem Sterling look to have reignited the bust-up

The fallout came after the Manchester City winger reignited a row with Gomez which had started on the pitch in the closing stages of Liverpool's 3-1 win over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

Sterling had allegedly told Joe Gomes, "So you think you’re the big man?" before grappling with him. The winger reportedly grabbed Gomez by the throat in the England canteen.

Reports about the fallout from Monday's row continued on Tuesday when Liverpool defender Gomez was spotted with a scratch under his right eye in England training

And according to the Daily Mirrorthe scratch came about after Sterling tried to get Gomez in a headlock, with his jewellery actually causing the abrasion under his eye.

The Mirror says the two players reportedly had to be pulled apart by team-mates, sending food flying from tables.

After Gomez turned up to training the following day with a scar under his eye, England head coach Southgate was asked at a press conference whether Sterling had caused the scratch.

Gareth Southgate had however axed Sterling from England's Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Thursday before his Tuesday press conference - where he told reporters both Premier League stars have reconcile and apologized for their actions.

Lfc rumour
Sterling took to social media to admit that emotions had got the better of him after the shameful incident.

The 24-year-old said via Instagram: "We are in a sport where emotions run high and I am man enough to admit when emotions got the better of me. Both Joe and I have had words, figured things out and moved on.

"Me and Joe are good, we both understand it was a 5-10 second thing. It’s done, we move forward and not make this bigger than it is.

"Let's get focus on our game on Thursday."

The FA are reported to be considering hitting Sterling with a misconduct charge while the former Liverpool winger is looking up to resolving his exemption from the international fixtures in the coming days.
