Alan Shearer insist Liverpool don't deserve Premier League title if season is abandoned

Alan Shearer has insisted Liverpool should be prevented from winning this season's Premier League title if matches are not completed

Liverpool  are currently relishing a whopping 25-point lead at top of the Premier League and need just two more wins from their remaining nine matches to seal a first top-flight crown in 30 years.

They were expected to do just that before April but they however have to endure a decision to suspend the Premier League until April 3 due to the increasing number of coronavirus cases across Europe, including England.

Meanwhile, There have also been huge uncertainty over whether or not the Premier League will resume after that date, with many worried  that the campaign may have to be scrapped altogether.

In that view of the Premier League being written off, former Newcastle striker and Premier League's all-time top scorer Alan Shearer has opined that Liverpool should not be handed the title despite their 25-point lead.

"If, and it is a huge if, the season cannot be completed then there is no way you can have a winner or loser," said Shearer, writing in his column for The Sun .

"If you cannot complete the fixtures then you cannot go handing out titles or consider relegating anybody.

"For Liverpool, it would be incredibly harsh. They only need six points to wrap it up but they haven’t got them yet so for that reason it has to be declared null and void.

"It would be very different if the season was suspended after they had got the points to win it."

  1. Yes But What About Teams That can Maybe Escape Relegation

  2. Why don't you also suggest that the new season should start with Liverpool having 25 points more than the rest? Alan you have disappointed me because I thought there was enough brain in your head but alas it mucus! For me if the league is over Liverpool deserve the crown bcz more than half of the games of the season have been played and they lead with 25 points not by fluke but merit. So if no one get the trophy then who is accredited with 2019/2020 season and who plays the community shield? And who will be accredited wit UCL & EUROPA? Let be logic here and do the right thing. For me you give Liverpool the trophy and no team gets relagated but you promote the teams leading in the EFL and let's have many teams but also increase the number of those to be relagated in 2020/2021 season.
Champions league is that tye teams that qualifies for this season be the ones to enter the competition and maintain the group stage as they were before.

  3. He is right, if the league should be handled to Liverpool, what about the fa cup, who will be the winner? The golden boot, player of the season, relegation etc the best thing to do is to declare the league null and void.

  6. He is finding a way so that newcastle can stay up and not relegated.liverpool will wait even for 1 month but will not accept the season to be null and void.No justice in that especially with their 25 points gap.
