Liverpool have tracked Brighton's Ben White over the last 12 months or so

Brighton boss opens up on Ben White to Liverpool rumours.

However , the Premier League champions had decided against making a move for the defender during the summer transfer window.

Now, with Virgil van Dijk out injured , rumours of a transfer swoop in January have begun, much to the annoyance of Brighton boss Graham Potter .

White signed a new deal upon returning to Brighton in the summer, after spending last season on loan at Leeds United .

The English centre-back was the subject of a couple of bids from Leeds before he penned an extension on the South Coast, with Brighton adamant that they were never going to sell the player.

Speaking ahead of Brighton vs West Brom on Monday night, Potter said: "I think it is a bit like it was at the start of the season. All sorts of talk about him doing this, him doing that, and it is generated by outside, by outside of our control really.

"It is part of the football noise. The transfer window closed last week and we are already having conversations around transfer speculation. It’s just the way it is.

"I know he is level-headed enough to not let it affect him. I think at this level you have to know it is part of the territory.

"It is part of the job of being a footballer, while it’s part of what you have to deal with. Consistently all he has done is get on with his football.

"He has come into training, tried to be professional, tried his best, and tried to play football. I have no concerns about Ben."

Potter was not keen to place a price-tag on his player over the summer but White has, according to some reports, been valued at around £50 million by Brighton this week.

Brighton manager Potter said on the speculation: "I haven't heard anything about that. Apparently if it comes in the media, it must be true, eh?"
