Martin Skrtel put in a commanding performance as Turkish side Istanbul Başakşehir surprised Manchester United with a 2-1 home victory in the Champions League.

The former Liverpool centre-back made a total of four tackles, five interceptions and three clearances, the most of any other player, in the victory to take three points in the group H game.

Demba Ba, known for his infamous Chelsea 2-0 winner to stop Brendan Rodgers' title challenge in 2014, scored the opener for the Süper Lig club on 13 minutes after some terrible defending from the Red Devils.

Edin Visca doubled the Turkish side's lead before Anthony Martial pulled one back before half-time.

Skrtel then helped the home side keep United at bay in the second half to gain three points.

The 35-year-old plays alongside former United defender Rafael for the Turkish outfit, and the two joked that they "hate" each other before the game.

Skrtel joined Basaksehir in September 2019, having been a free agent after terminating his contract his Atalanta after just three weeks with the Italian side.
