Roy Keane labels Kyle Walker an 'idiot' for role in Liverpool penalty

Roy Keane has labelled Kyle Walker an "idiot" and a "car crash" for his challenge on Sadio Mane

Roy Keane label Walker 'idiot' for challenge on Sadio Mane.

The former Manchester United captain didn't hold back in his analysis on Kyle Walker after he brought down Sadio Mane in the first half.

The Reds took an early lead at the Etihad Stadium when Walker was penalised for fouling Mane inside the penalty area after the Liverpool forward has burst inside him.

Mohamed Salah struck home the resulting penalty to give Liverpool a deserved lead.

City equalised through Gabriel Jesus and could have taken the lead after Joe Gomez was judged the have handled the ball inside the area, a controversial decision awarded by VAR that was hotly contested by both Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville on co-commentary duties.

There was little argument about Walker's challenge though, with Keane taking no prisoners with his view on the City and England right-back.

City had complained about a foul in the build-up, with Sterling fouled outside the area but, after staying on his feet, the decision wasn't given.

"I think it is an initially foul but I think the referee is looking at Sterling and thinking 'he's in the penalty box', he's taken another touch and played advantage," Keane said at half time.

"He's (Mane) up against an idiot. People tell me Kyle Walker is playing well, I don't think so. He's 30 years of age, international player.

"He's a car crash, he keeps making these types of mistakes and rightly punished for it."

Walker gave away a similar penalty during City's 5-2 defeat to Leicester City last month after bringing down Jamie Vardy when the Leicester City striker had got inside him on the right channel.
