Real Madrid ready to beat Liverpool to David Alaba's signature

Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Liverpool target and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba

According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of the Austria international on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Alaba whose contract with Bayern Munich end in six months time after a £200,000 a week extension was turned down, is now able to speak to foreign teams.

The Daily Mail cite Marca as claiming Zinedine Zidane's side remain at the front of the queue in the race to snap him up, and believe the club are desperate to wrap up negotiations as soon as possible.

The publication also claimed, Real's tabled proposal to Alaba is already clear - that the contract will reportedly be for four years and Alaba will pocket just over €10million (£8.9m) per year.

However, it is clear Liverpool can still override Real to the players signature if the Premier League champions can pay nearly £50million this winter, forcing Bayern to convince the player to have a change of mind.
