Mathew Hoppe attracting Liverpool interest

Schalke’s Matthew Hoppe is reportedly drawing attention from Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window

The 20-year-old striker is heading towards relegation from the Bundesliga this season, but has made history as the first US national to score a hat-trick in the German top-flight.

According to Transfermarkt , via Sport Witness , Hoppe is in the sights of a few clubs, including Liverpool and Ajax.

The report says that the Amsterdam side haven’t tabled an offer for the forward, but Liverpool have ‘signalled their fundamental interest’ in the player.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Friedel has backed the young to succeed in career at Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp gives the green light to land him in the summer.

Friedel, when asked if compatriot Hoppe would be a useful signing for Jurgen Klopp, he said: "Time will tell if Liverpool target Matthew Hoppe has the quality to make it at Liverpool.

"I think, with a signing like that, it depends on the amount of money you’re paying and the wage that you're paying.

"I've not studied Hoppe like they would have studied him, that's for sure. If Klopp thinks he would be a good addition, then that would be the only approval that he would need."
