Ibrahima Konate explains donning the No5 jersey

Gini Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain left the No 5 shirt free upon Konate’s arrival

Liverpool wasted no time in securing Konate service as he became the club's first signing of the summer in May following their season-long battle with defensive injuries.

Earlier this month, Konate, 22, emphatically announced his shirt number at his new club with his friends in his native France.

The Frenchman met up with teammates for the first time this week as they embarked on a month-long training camp in Austria ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

On replacing Wijnaldum as the Reds' number five, despite the Dutch's five years occupying the number, Konate said he feels there is no pressure taking over the "important number".

Speaking to the Liverpool official website, the former RB Leipzig man said: "I think it's an important number for this club.

"A great player had this number before me. I have no pressure - but a little bit of pressure because I have to improve for the future. I hope I will do great things with this number."
