AFCON: Liverpool duo goes head to head

Sadio Mane and Naby Keita will battle it out at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations

Taking place between January 9 and February 6, one year later than expected due to COVID-19 fears,
Liverpool will bid farewell to Mohamed Salah , Mane and Keita as they represent their respective nations.

Mane and Keita will face off in Group B at the competition for Senegal and Guinea respectively - which could potentially result in either player heading for an earlier return to Liverpool than anticipated.

The top two sides will qualify for the knockout stage of the competition, meanwhile the best four third-placed teams will also advance.

Senegal will be the favourites to progress in this group, with Zimbabwe, Malawi and Guinea set to battle it out for a place in the next round.

The same competition will see Mohamed Salah representing Egypt in Group D, which also features Nigeria, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

Liverpool are involved in two Premier League fixtures in  the four-week period of January, hosting newly-promoted Brentford on January 15 before making the trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on January 22.

One other fixture the trio are set to miss will be the third-round of the FA Cup, which is due to be played on the weekend of January 8 and 9.
