CIEF FO predict no PL title for Reds using stats

Boffins at the CIES Football Observatory have predicted where Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool will finish in the Premier League this season

Liverpool have been told they will finish above Chelsea this season - but will still fall short in their attempt to regain the Premier League crown.

The two clubs are locked together at the top of the embryonic table having recorded identical results so far this campaign, with Chelsea ahead only on the strength of having drawn at Anfield in their head-to-head last month.

However, the boffins at the CIES Football Observatory have calculated both clubs will not even feature in the top two come the end of the campaign.

Using a statistical model that includes the players’ experience, transfer fee investments to build squads, as well as each team’s performance over the last 12 months, it has been predicted that Liverpool will finish in exactly the same third position they secured last season.

The Boffins predicted the entire top four will remain unchanged, with Manchester City again winning the Premier League and neighbours United finishing second.

Tottenham Hotspur are predicted to finish just outside the Champions League places in fifth, with Everton beating Leicester City to sixth place.

At the bottom, Norwich City and Watford will be demoted back to the Championship where they will be joined by Newcastle United, with Burnley and Brentford just above the drop zone.
