Jurgen Klopp anticipating Steven Gerrard's Premier League challenge

Gerrard is set to return to Anfield next month as he looks to turn around Villa's fortunes

Steven Gerrard has revealed he received a message from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after he landed the Aston Villa job last week.

The former Liverpool captain spent over three years in Scotland with Rangers as he helped them end Celtic's nine-year dominance last season.

He's now returning to the Premier League with Villa and he's faced the media ahead of his first game in charge against Brighton this Saturday.

The 41-year-old revealed that Klopp is looking forward to meeting at Anfield next month.

"I bump into him [Klopp] regularly when he walks his dogs, we live in a similar area," Gerrard said in his press conference.

"He's a great man and coach, Liverpool are very lucky to have him at the helm so long may that continue.

"He sent me a message and he said he’s looking forward to a big hug on the side on December 11 so that’s something to look forward to."

Gerrard started his managerial career with Liverpool's academy before he left to join Rangers in 2018.

The task at hand for the former England international and skipper is a challenging one as the Villans have failed to pick up any points in the league since the end of September.
