"It could be Tottenham" - Ian Wright fires Spurs warning to Reds

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has sent a warning to Liverpool ahead of their match against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend

The Reds take on Spurs on Saturday evening at Anfield in their next Premier League fixture as they look to take over at the top from leaders Manchester City. Liverpool are one point behind City and so could leapfrog them with a victory over Tottenham.

Jurgen Klopp's side have already secured a minimum of a second-place finish following their win at Newcastle United last weekend. But with four matches left to play, the Reds will still believe they can pip Pep Guardiola's men to the title.

However, ahead of the clash against Spurs, Wright has offered a warning, referencing the start Liverpool made against Villarreal in their Champions League semi-final second leg on Tuesday.

The Reds did triumph 3-2 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate to reach the Champions League final. But they trailed 2-0 at half-time in the second leg and needed second-half goals from Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane to win the tie.

"I think that, what they really want to be careful about, Liverpool, is the way that they started the game against Villarreal," said Wright on the Kelly and Wrighty show.

"They have to make sure they don't start like that. There was a casualness to it.

"I think they’ll know that… they cannot start as poorly as I saw them start against Everton and against Villarreal."

The former Arsenal centre-forward had offered an early prediction to the fixture last month, when he said: "I think that Tottenham game for Liverpool looks a tricky one. You don’t know what Tottenham are going to turn up. If any team can cause them problems, then it could be a Tottenham."
