The Daily Mail have reported that Liverpool are close to completing the transfer of Jorg Schmadtke to become the new sporting director at Anfield in anticipation of Julian Ward leaving the club at the end of the season.

The report : "But Schmadtke, 59, a well-respected figure within German football, received a solid recommendation from manager Jurgen Klopp during discussions with club owners Fenway Sports Group and is now heading to the formalities of a contract."
