Arsenal cool interest in Liverpool and Chelsea transfer target Romeo Lavia

The Gunners had added the Belgium international to their list of summer targets amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Thomas Partey. Several Saudi Pro League clubs had expressed interest in the former Atletico Madrid star, while Juventus had also registered an interest in the 29-year-old who has two years left on his current contract. Partey’s preference has always been to remain at Arsenal but the signing of Declan Rice could have a major impact on his playing time this season. With Granit Xhaka also having departed, Mikel Arteta was always reluctant to lose two experienced midfielders in one transfer window and only a massive offer for Partey would have swayed the Gunners into selling. Liverpool, meanwhile, have jumped to the head of the queue for Lavia who impressed at St Mary’s last season, despite Southampton’s relegation from the Premier Leauge.
