The Saudi Arabia Pro League club’s first official bid was, according to The Athletic, well in excess of £100million, plus significant add-ons, but was instantly rebuffed Liverpool director Mike Gordon on Thursday night. Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Aston Villa, Jurgen Klopp maintained his stance that his star forward was not for sale, saying there was ‘no offer as far as I know’. Liverpool consider the matter dealt with but the Saudi’s are unlikely to be deterred and are almost certain to return with an improved offer. While Premier League clubs are unable to sign new players before January 1 once tonight’s 11.00pm deadline passes, Saudi Arabian clubs are able to continue recruiting players to their competition up until September 20.
