Mohamed Salah expected to remain at Liverpool following Arne Slot’s appointment

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah is now expected to remain at the club this summer following Arne Slot’s appointment.



The Egyptian, who attracted serious interest from Saudi Arabia in 2023, has a year to run on his contract.



The 31-year-old, who turns 32 later this month, was the subject of bids over £100m last summer.



But Liverpool made it clear that they would not listen to offers for the former Roma playmaker.



Salah’s numbers remained strong last season, but his performances took a noticeable dip.



The Egyptian also had a public spat with Jurgen Klopp after he was dropped for a trip to West Ham, and was seen arguing with the German before he took to the field at the London Stadium.



But, while a large offer for Salah would be tempting for Liverpool to accept for a player with 12 months left on his deal, the club expect to keep the Egyptian.

According to the Athletic, Salah is set to remain at Anfield and the club want to look at strengthening the squad during Slot’s first summer in charge, rather than have any significant departures.



The club are keen on signing another wide player, while centre-back is another priority position with Joel Matip set to leave.



Further additions could depend on the role that Slot selects for Trent Alexander-Arnold.



The England ace was used as a right-back by Klopp, but could be pushed into midfield by Slot.



In that scenario, the club will look to sign a new first choice right-back.
