Deal agreed as Liverpool defensive target puts pen to paper

The pursuit of Ousmane Diomande has taken a significant turn as of late January 2026

While Liverpool has long tracked the Sporting CP defender, recent developments in Lisbon have complicated any immediate move.

Just days ago, Ousmane Diomande officially signed a contract extension with Sporting CP. This move has significantly cooled rumors of an immediate January exit.

The ivorian is now tied to the Portuguese club until June 30, 2030.

Release Clause: His buyout clause has been maintained (and by some reports increased) to €80 million (£70 million).

Player Stance: Upon signing, Diomande stated he feels "at home" in Lisbon and believes staying is the "right decision" for his growth.

While a January move now looks unlikely due to the new contract, Liverpool is expected to maintain its interest heading into the Summer 2026 window. If Konaté does not extend his stay at Anfield, Diomande remains a wildcard option the club is prepared to move for.
