Bradley Barcola Set for More Minutes Against Atlético Madrid
Bradley Barcola is in contention to make his first Liverpool start when the Reds face Atlético Madrid in their Champions League opener at Anfield tonight.
The France international made his Liverpool debut as a substitute in the 2-0 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town, playing around 30 minutes after joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain. His involvement was managed carefully because he arrived without a full pre-season with his new teammates.
However, head coach Andoni Iraola has indicated that Barcola is now ready to take on a greater role. With Cody Gakpo having missed training ahead of the Atlético match, the French winger is among the options available to the Reds' boss in the attacking positions.
Barcola's potential inclusion would give Liverpool another option in the wide areas, particularly with Iraola looking to establish his preferred attacking structure. The 23-year-old's first appearance showed that the club is likely to introduce him progressively rather than place immediate expectations on him. A start against Atlético would therefore represent an important step in his early adaptation.
