James Milner has returned to Liverpool to begin coaching journey
The former Liverpool vice-captain is set to work part-time within the club's Academy, with his initial involvement understood to be with the younger age groups. It marks the beginning of a coaching journey that he had already started preparing for during his playing days.
Milner retired from professional football in June at the age of 40 after a remarkable 24-year Premier League career. He finished as the competition's all-time appearance holder, having made 658 league appearances.
His return to Liverpool is particularly fitting given the strong connection he developed with the club during eight seasons at Anfield.
Signed on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2015, Milner made 332 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 26 goals and providing 45 assists. He won the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and League Cup during his time with the Reds. He was appointed vice-captain shortly after arriving at the club and remained an influential figure throughout Jürgen Klopp's successful reign.
