Kostas Tsimikas has revealed his brilliant exchange with Jürgen Klopp after Greece defeated Germany
Kostas Tsimikas played a starring role in Greece’s historic 1-0 victory over Germany on Sunday. The Liverpool defender completed the full 90 minutes as Greece secured victory in Augsburg, handing Klopp defeat in his first home match as Germany head coach.
Dimitrios Kourbelis scored the decisive goal in the second half as Greece held on to record a notable Nations League victory.
Klopp, of course, has a long-standing relationship with Tsimikas from their time together at Anfield.
Following the final whistle, Tsimikas revealed that he joked with his former manager after Greece had beaten Germany.
The Liverpool defender told Klopp that he had used what the former Borussia Dortmund manager had taught him at Anfield to defeat his new team.
Klopp responded by congratulating his former player.
“The most fantastic feeling was seeing him after a long time,” Tsimikas told Sport24. “I’ve definitely been through a lot with him, there’s a relationship of love and respect between us.
“As I told him, I did what he taught me, and I beat him with his own weapons.
“He was laughing and said, ‘Congratulations’. I’ll see him in a week. Now we’ll rest because in three days we’re playing another final.”
The result was particularly significant given the circumstances. Greece had not previously defeated Germany throughout the entire history of senior men's international football. The result also gives the Piratiko considerable confidence as they prepare for their next Nations League fixture against the Netherlands.
