Liverpool and Arsenal keen on a January swoop for Norwich City midfielder

James Maddison is attracting move from host of  Premier League sides with Tottenham and Everton also in the raid

    Lfc rumour
Liverpool and Tottenham are considering moves for the 21-year-old midfielder, who has chipped in with eight goals and eight assists in 30 appearances.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly plotting a January swoop before immediately loaning Maddison back to Norwich for the rest of the season in a bid to beat their Anfield rivals.

And the bookies reckon Maddison could be on the move before the transfer window slams shut.

Liverpool and Tottenham plus Premier League rivals Arsenal and Everton are priced at 4/1 to sign the England Under-21 international before February 3.

Maddison is under contract at Carrow Road until 2021 after signing an extension last summer.

Norwich are in the midst of a cost-cutting process and sold Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield for £11million earlier this month.

But Canaries head coach Daniel Farke does not expect the club to sell Maddison in this transfer window.

“There can be no assurances in this business,” he said.

“Two weeks ago I didn’t have the feeling we would sell Alex but things develop, offers increase and there is a point when the club must make a decision.

“You know in this business there can be something stupid at any moment. But right now, from the sporting side they know it is important to keep a key player like James Maddison.

“The only message from this decision should be that before, the financial pressure was not big in this window.

“Now we have sold an important player for a lot of money so there is no pressure to sell another one.

“It takes further pressure away and we are able to keep players like James Maddison.

“I am pretty sure if we get another offer for one of our big players after selling Alex the board would feel we can’t lose a second key player in this moment in the season. It means we are more likely to keep the key players together.”

Maddison once attracted interest from Liverpool and Arsenal before Norwich signed him from Coventry in January 2016.
