Liverpool told Timo Werner deal unlikely to happen

RB Leipzig have played down talks Liverpool are favourite to land Timo Werner

The German forward has been continually linked with move to Liverpool since the past two seasons.

Reports in Germany have this Wednesday claimed the Reds are 'serious' about signing the forward in the summer transfer window, amid claims they made contact with Leipzig in January.

Sport Bild claim that the RB Leipzig striker has been singled out by the  Reds as the perfect player to enhance their frontline.

They also stated Liverpool's plan in January was to sign the 23-year-old and then loan him back to Leipzig for the remainder of the season.

But RB Leipzig have now made it clear in response to that speculation - that they have no intention of doing business with the Liverpool, poking fun at the Merseysiders that Werner is heading to Tottenham [that is, for the Champions League].

The Bundesliga club wrote on Twitter: "We heard. He is headed towards Tottenham though."
