The Premier League rivals are said to have been in contact with the player's agent about the possibility of signing him in the summer.

And according to Sport Bild's head of football, Christian Falk, on Twitter, both clubs have swooped in for the German forward, although the German is favoring a move to Anfield.

Werner is seen as one of the hottest prospects in European football, and Liverpool are keen on his services.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been in the player's list of suitors in the past but Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side are currently more graceful to secure his signature in the summer.

Werner has scored 88 goals in 150 appearances for Leipzig and would be Liverpool's primary acquisition of the summer if they decide to make a move.
