Arsenal have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Thiago Alcantara

The Gunners have reportedly enquired about the midfielder's availability hoping they would wrap up a deal after the Champions League final clash between PSG and Bayern Munich.

Liverpool who were tipped as favourite to complete Thiago's deal are yet to meet Bayern Munich's latest £23m asking price for the player.

And according to the Daily Mail Arsenal have entered the midfielder's race, looking forward to selling Lucas Torreira and Mohamed Elneny to fund a deal.

Thiago is poised to leave Bayern when they finish their season tonight playing PSG in the Champions League final.

Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had confirmed last month that the 29-year-old is wanting a new challenge outside the Allianz.

”We negotiated seriously with him and fulfilled all his wishes," he said.

"But it seems that he wants to do something new towards the end of his career.

"We definitely didn't have any contact to Liverpool at all. If he wants to do that, we have to deal with it.

"We don't want to lose any player next year for free. I can say it that clearly."
