Andoni Iraola has praised Trey Nyoni for his tactical intelligence and maturity following the midfielder’s performance in Liverpool’s 6-3 Champions League victory over LASK.
Nyoni, who made his first Champions League start in the match, impressed Iraola with his understanding of the game despite his limited experience at senior level.
Speaking after the match, the Liverpool boss highlighted the youngster’s tactical awareness and ability to adapt to different situations on the pitch.
“Trey is a player that I think, being very young with not a lot of minutes in the first team, he’s very mature. He understands the situations very well, he understands the game very well. Tactically, I think he’s really smart,” Iraola said.
The Liverpool boss also stressed the importance of consistency, urging Nyoni to maintain his standards in training and remain prepared to contribute whenever required.
“He has been involved, I think, in most of the last games, but he has to keep this level of performance, of training,” he added.
Iraola further explained that the young midfielder must be ready to perform in different midfield roles and accept whatever responsibilities the team requires, whether starting a match or coming on as a substitute.
The Spaniard also welcomed the contribution of young players, noting that their ability to perform in major competitions provides valuable depth for his team.
Nyoni’s involvement against LASK represents another step in the youngster’s development, with the midfielder now looking to build on the opportunity and strengthen his position within the first-team squad.
Liverpool Face Brentford Amid Midfield Concerns
Liverpool now turn their attention to Saturday’s Premier League trip to Brentford, with several absences and fitness concerns raising questions over their midfield options.
Ryan Gravenberch will serve a one-match suspension, while Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai have been facing fitness concerns ahead of the fixture. Liverpool are awaiting further assessments to determine their availability.
With several players potentially unavailable, Trey Nyoni could be in line for another start at the Gtech Community Stadium.
