Jurgen Klopp could be heading back to Dortmund

Liverpool set for surprise Champions League venue change in their final group game

Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool v Atalanta

Liverpool's trip to FC Midtjylland is in major doubt due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

The Reds are away at FC Midtjylland in their closing Group D game on December 9.

They were initially scheduled to travel to Denmark for the match but that has been put in major doubt due to UK Government travel restrictions to the country because of the coronavirus pandemic.

UEFA is aware of the potential issue and is continuing discussions with both clubs before making a final decision.

And while a number of alternative options for a neutral venue are on the table, Dortmund’s Westfalenstadion has emerged as most likely to host the game should it need to be switched.

Klopp spent seven years in charge at the Bundesliga club - reaching the Champions League final in 2013 - before moving to Anfield in 2015.

And Dortmund was the venue for Liverpool’s memorable UEFA Cup final triumph of 2001, when they defeated Spanish side Alaves 5-4.

The Reds will seal progress to the Champions League knockout stages with two games to spare should they beat Atalanta at home this evening.
