Liverpool have once again been drawn against a Premier League opposition in the FA Cup third round
Liverpool have been handed an early chance to exact revenge on Aston Villa after the pair were drawn together in the FA Cup third round.
The Reds will head to Villa Park for the tie, which will take place on the January 8.
It is a first return for Jurgen Klopp's side to Villa since they suffered the club's heaviest defeat since 1963 when thumped 7-2 in the Premier League last month.
This is the fourth successive year Liverpool have been drawn against Premier League opposition in the third round, following ties against Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton again last season.
Remarkably, in their 25 domestic cup draws since Klopp assumed charge in October 2015, Liverpool have now been paired to face a top-flight side on 16 occasions.
The last meeting with Villa in the FA Cup saw the Midlanders win 2-1 in the semi-final at Wembley before going on to lose 4-0 to Arsenal in the final.
Liverpool's most recent tie at Villa Park saw John Barnes and Peter Beardsley score in a 2-0 fourth round success in 1988.
The Reds have faced Villa eight times in the competition and have progressed on six occasions.
Under Klopp, they have never gone beyond the fifth round of the FA Cup.
