Alan Shearer hints Manchester United are favourites ahead of crucial Anfield showdown

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer believes Manchester United are in top form and have improved defensively

With the Red Devils' Premier League clash with Liverpool looming, it has appeared some crucial turnaround for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side over the past weeks, with  the Old Trafford club moving three points clear from Jurgen Klopp's champions at top of the Premier League table after a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley on Tuesday.

United are the in-form team, obviously favourites according to Shearer. Wherefore, they have stayed unbeaten away from home in the Premier  League so far this season.

"They're the in-form team. Man City are playing well and getting the right results and scoring goals," Shearer told Premier League Productions.

"But when you look at Man United, they've improved, I think certainly defensively.

"When you look at where they were against Tottenham Hotspur at home and where they were in that game, to where they are now.

"Togetherness, I think the willingness to fight and scrap for each other, they certainly look far more organised to me than they have been in a while, and they look like a team.

"They look like a team that wants to work and scrap for each other and that's what they deserve, they deserve to be where they are.

"And I don't think even the biggest of Man United supporters would have said they would have been in this position eight or nine weeks ago."
