Reds fans splits in two as Darren Bent insists Wijnaldum 'is not worth a top earner at Liverpool'

Georginio Wijnaldum's Liverpool contract saga continues, with January the player's deadline to put pen to paper

Darren Bent has passed a conceivable message  to Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum amidst contact tussle with Liverpool.

Bent's message came after report that Wijnaldum is demanding from the Reds, weekly wages that would see himself rank among top earners at Anfield.

According to Bent, Dutch midfielder Wijnaldum is not worthy of a significant pay hike at Liverpool as he's not 'changed lives' at the club.

"He’s been very, very good, but no, I’m not putting him on the same wages as Salah, Mane, even Firmino, for that matter,” Bent told Football Insider .

"But to kind of catapult yourself to where Van Dijk is, Alisson, these guys, them two, for instance, changed lives at Liverpool when they came in.

"So to say you want to be on the same kind of level as them, I don’t think so, you can’t get away with that.

"He certainly deserves a bigger wage than he’s probably on but to say that he wants to be one of the top earners in the same bracket as them guys, no."

Bent's suggestion bifurcated Liverpool fans, one group opposing the other believing the former England international is wrong.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "I think Bent has no clue about what he's saying."

Another added: "Doesn't matter he's been part of a struggling Liverpool team that reached fame and also an experienced player"

A third wrote : "I think Gini is demanding for too much."
