Gareth Southgate gives injury update on Trent Alexander-Arnold

The Liverpool defender limped off injured in the closing moments of England's friendly against Austria at the Riverside

Gareth Southgate thinks Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up a thigh injury during England’s 1-0 friendly win over Austria.

The Reds defender indicated to the bench he needed to be substituted shortly after making a clearance in the final minutes of the game at the Riverside.

He was included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the Euro’s on Tuesday, despite strong reports 24 hours earlier he would be omitted.

The right-back started in his favoured position for Southgate’s side before limping off with what his boss believes to be a thigh issue.

"We'e going to have a little look. It’s obviously not good to see him come off in the way he did,” Southgate said.

“We're just going to have to assess him in the next 24 hours. I think it’s a thigh injury, but the medical team are assessing him.

“We just have to see. The last thing you want is to see him come off in the way he did but will know more in the next 24 or 48 hours.

"Let's see how Trent is, and we'll go from there. We don’t know the full extent."
