Jay Spearing is making a surprise return to Liverpool in a player-coach role following his release from Tranmere Rovers earlier this summer
According to the Telegraph , the Reds are "close" to adding Spearing to their ranks ahead of the new season.
The report claims the midfielder would occupy a dual role which would see him coach players in the academy's younger age groups and also being available for selection exclusively for the club's Under-21s side as an overage player.
