A Copa Libertadores-winning midfielder has expressed his desire to join Liverpool after admitting his admiration for Thiago Alcantara.

Flamengo star Joao Gomez helped his current side beat compatriots 1-0 on Saturday
Atlético Paraná, Brazil.

But the 21-year-old is in high demand and with clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Real Madrid already linked with a move for the attacking midfielder, a move to European football seems likely. The player himself has done nothing to quell the speculation, believing the Reds are the club he would love to play for.

"I'm looking at Thiago Alcantara," admitted Gomez, who has been likened to Manchester United's summer signing Casemiro.

Gomez recently told ESPN: "Liverpool is a team I would love to play for. Participating in the Champions League is my biggest dream. My biggest dream in football. "

Gomez is believed to be worth around £32million presently, meaning there has been a drop from his initial  £50m tagged price.

and while Jude Bellingham has long been considered the Reds' top midfield target, a move could be a possibility for the highly-rated Brazilian. easier to implement.

It's  understood that Liverpool are competing with Real Madrid for his signature.

Journalist Jorge Nicola claims Flamengo are already trying to find a midfield replacement for the 21-year-old.

Liverpool's midfield is increasingly becoming  an area to address, with injuries and older players' legs taking their toll this season. Jurgen Klopp's side are currently ninth in the Premier League after losing their last two Premier League games to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.
