The Saudi Pro League is turning its attention to Liverpool again this summer, with Luis Diaz and Joe Gomez being eyed for big-money moves, according to reports.
Last year saw Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho all swap Anfield for the Saudi Pro League, with Henderson’s move bringing in £12m and Fabinho’s £40m.
Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia after failed bids for him last summer and both Diaz and Gomez are now being touted with making the switch.
Many of the high profile moves to Saudi Arabia over the last 18 months have been by players who are past their prime, but the mega-rich league now wants to focus on younger options.
Diaz and Gomez are both 27 years old and are likely around the peak of their careers.
The Daily Mail report that both the Colombian winger and English defender are being looked at by the Saudi Pro League and both may be open to a move after Jurgen Klopp’s departure as manager of the Reds.
Much will depend on incoming manager Arne Slot’s plans and how central he sees the two men to his strategy at Anfield.
Joe Gomez’s excellent season with Liverpool has seen him return to the England set-up (Picture: Getty Images)
Both men were very important to Klopp over the last season, with 51 appearances each across all competitions, so both would need to be replaced if they were allowed to leave.
Gomez and Diaz are under contract at Liverpool until 2027 so would command big transfer fees, as well as enormous wages if they were to make the move to Saudi Arabia.
The Reds’ squad is already depleted before Slot starts work as Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara have both left the club at the end of their contracts.
Goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher is also being linked with an exit after admitting that he now feels it is the time for him to play regularly and that is unlikely to be an option with Liverpool.

‘Very nice clubs’ – Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow responds to Liverpool and Arsenal transfer links
Justin Bijlow has been linked with a move to the Premier League (Picture: Getty)
Netherlands goalkeeper Justin Bijlow admits it is flattering to be linked with ‘very nice clubs’ Liverpool and Arsenal and has refused to confirm he will remain at Feyenoord beyond the summer.
Bijlow, 26, has emerged as a target for Premier League rivals Liverpool and Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp’s replacement Arne Slot is keen to bring Bijlow to Anfield following his move from Feyenoord, with the shot-stopper viewed as ideal back-up to Liverpool No. 1 Alisson.
Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher has performed that role over the last few seasons but is expected to push for a move away from Anfield in order to get more game-time.
Arsenal are also expected to sign a new goalkeeper this summer with England international Aaron Ramsdale set to leave, potentially to Newcastle United.
Mikel Arteta signed David Raya on loan at the start of the season and the Spaniard will put pen to paper on a permanent move in the coming weeks after an impressive first 12 months in north London.
Bijlow has made more than 100 league appearances for boyhood club Feyenoord but has refused to commit his long-term future to the Dutch giants as Liverpool and Arsenal circle.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Voetbalzone, he said: ‘Would I stay at Feyenoord? You never know, do you? That’s football. You don’t know that.
‘I’m ambitious, I’ve always said that. If the opportunity presents itself and a good club comes from abroad, I am open to it. I’ve always said that.
‘As long as I am under contract with Feyenoord, that is never a punishment and I will give everything as long as I play there.’

Asked specifically about the interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, Bijlow added: ‘Those are two very nice clubs.
‘Of course it is always nice to be mentioned at big clubs. What I’m just saying: I’m ambitious. As long as I play for Feyenoord I will give everything for that and first I just want to focus on the Dutch team.’
Bijlow will hope to impress at Euro 2024 after being selected in the Netherlands’ provisional squad for the tournament along with fellow goalkeepers Mark Flakken, Bart Verbruggen and Nick Olij.

The Netherlands, currently managed by Ronaldo Koeman, won the Euros in 1988 but have struggled in their last three outings and did not even qualify for the 2016 tournament.
They have threatened at three of the last four World Cups, however, finishing as runners-up in 2010 and reaching the latter stages in 2014 and 2022.
Seven points separated Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League last season, with the Gunners narrowly missing out on the title and the Reds finishing third in Klopp’s final season at the club.

Erik ten Hag aims dig at Manchester United with Arne Slot and Liverpool verdict
Erik ten Hag says Liverpool’s move for Arne Slot is a ‘beautiful choice’ (ANP via Getty)
Erik ten Hag has aimed a dig at Manchester United in his praise for Liverpool’s decision to appoint Arne Slot as their new manager.
Liverpool confirmed their move for Slot last week and the 45-year-old now faces the difficult task of building on Jurgen Klopp’s successful nine-year stint at Anfield.
Slot won both the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup during his three seasons with Feyenoord and Ten Hag has described Liverpool’s decision as a ‘beautiful choice’.
However, Ten Hag was also keen to point out that Slot arrives at Liverpool with a ‘a strong foundation’ from Klopp’s reign – something which he claims he lacked when he joined United two years ago.
When asked about Liverpool’s decision to appoint Slot, Ten Hag told Voetbal International: ‘I think it is a very good and beautiful choice from both sides.
Erik ten Hag finished the season at Manchester United with the FA Cup (Shutterstock )
‘This is great for the Dutch trainers’ guild. And Arne Slot also fits Liverpool with his philosophy.
‘It also ties in with Jurgen Klopp and Pepijn Lijnders. They have left a strong foundation.
‘He ends up in better waters than I did when I went from the Netherlands to Manchester United. In terms of structure in the club, in terms of balance in the squad.’

However, Ten Hag also suggested that Feyenoord have received too much praise under Slot and claims Eredivisie champions PSV were the better team ‘in all areas’ the season.
‘Feyenoord were stable this year, but not top,’ Ten Hag said.
‘In my opinion, the difference between PSV and Feyenoord was too big from Feyenoord’s perspective as the reigning national champion. People are overly lyrical about Feyenoord.

Barcelona to step up pursuit of Liverpool star after Deco meets agent
The Barca sporting director wants to bring more dynamism to the team (Picture: Getty)
Barcelona have set their sights on Liverpool winger Luis Diaz and Deco has already spoken to the Colombian’s agent, according to reports in Spain.
The Catalan giants are embarking on another summer of upheaval, with Deco set to overhaul the squad following the departure of Xavi.
Sunday’s La Liga match against Sevilla will be Xavi’s final game as Barcelona manager, with former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick set to replace him.
Deco wants to change the makeup and profile of the squad this summer, with Spanish newspaper AS reporting that Luis Diaz is now his top target.
Barca have always wanted to bring in a new winger, with Xavi’s preference having been Athletic’s Nico Williams, but now their focus is shifting.
Deco believes the team lacks physical power and an X factor, as well as characters and leadership, something he feels Diaz can bring in abundance – and which also prompted their decision to sign veteran midfielder Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer.
The former Portugal international is already believed to have spoken to Diaz’s representatives to ascertain his situation.
Injuries have hampered the 27-year-old’s career on Merseyside but he was a reliable performer this season, scoring eight times and laying on five assists in 32 Premier League starts.
Diaz could be on the move this summer with Barca keen (Picture: Getty)
But Liverpool could potentially cash in on the Colombian, with Diaz not one of the four players new boss Arne Slot is planning to build his side around.
Another dynamic is that Liverpool paid a relatively modest £37.5million to Porto in 2022 and they could demand significantly more now – which would bolster their finances from a Profit and Sustainability Rules point of view.
Barca, though, would expect to face a tough negotiation, particularly now Michael Edwards is back at the club, and still have memories of the protracted – and very expensive – talks that took Philippe Coutinho to Camp Nou.
Moreover, Barca have significant financial issues and will need to sell a player first if they want to sign Diaz while still complying with La Liga’s FFP rules.

There are two players they are willing to sacrifice, one is centre-back Ronald Araujo – who could command a fee of as much as £80m – and the other is Brazilian winger Raphinha.
The latter has offers from Saudi Arabia and the Premier League, where he played previously for Leeds United, but is thought to be keen to stay at Barca.
Outside of Robert Lewandowski, no other Barcelona player got into double figures for league goals (with Joao Felix, Ferran Torres and Fermin Lopez the next best on seven) but Deco feels Diaz can be more of a ‘killer’ in the final third and provide more firepower.
Barca president Joan Laporta is said to be particularly drawn to Diaz because he is a fan of Barcelona, with his father recently revealing that he supported the Catalan club as a child and would like to move to Spain.

Crystal Palace set to sign potential Marc Guehi replacement amid Manchester United and Arsenal interest
Crystal Palace value Marc Guehi at upwards of £55m (Photo: Getty)
Chadi Riad appears set to sign for Crystal Palace, which could lead to Marc Guehi – a target for Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool – leaving the club.
Palace finished the season in sensational form and are planning to back manager Oliver Glasner as much as they can in the summer, with European qualification the target for 2024/25.
They are already closing in on their first signing, with the Daily Mail reporting that Riad is due to travel to England on Monday to undergo a medical at Selhurst Park.
It was said last week that the Eagles had offered Real Betis £12.7million for the defender’s services, with a further £1.7m in add-ons.
The 20-year-old missed Betis’ goalless draw at Real Madrid on Saturday as he prepared to fly out, but did make 30 appearances across all competitions to help his side finish seventh in La Liga and qualify for the Europa Conference League.
Riad came through Barcelona’s academy, joining Betis for just £3m last summer, with the Catalan giants due 50% of the profits from any future transfer.
All this could mean that Glasner is preparing for life after Guehi who is among the many Eagles stars tipped for a move this summer, a list that includes Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Jean Philippe-Mateta and Adam Wharton.

The centre-back has been mightily impressive since moving to South London from Chelsea for around £20m in 2021, with United, Arsenal and Liverpool especially interested in the 23-year-old.
Alongside Eze, Wharton and Palace keeper Dean Henderson, he was called up to England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad and is likely to start their opening match against Serbia should Harry Maguire fail to recover from injury in time.
The Mail add that Riad is ‘6ft 3ins tall, athletic, quick and left-footed’, seemingly making the Morocco international the perfect replacement for Guehi, who is valued at upwards of £55m.

However, Palace do not plan on selling any of their prized assets this summer, and given that Glasner plays with a back-three, Riad is likely to be adding depth not replacing Guehi.
As it stands, the club only have five centre-back options, namely Guehi, Joachim Andersen, Chris Richards, Rob Holding and Joel Ward, though it could be six if Nathaniel Clyne pens a new deal.
It should also be noted that Chelsea will also have the chance to re-sign their academy graduate, as they have a clause in his contract that allows them to match any offer for the defender.

Danny Murphy tells Liverpool to sign Crystal Palace duo if Mohamed Salah leaves
Mo Salah has been tipped to leave Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League (Photo: Getty)
Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool to hold onto Mohamed Salah to ease the transition between Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.
But should they let their talisman go, the former Reds midfielder wants the club to reinvest the money into signing Crystal Palace duo Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze.
This summer will be one of big change at Anfield, with Slot officially announced as the manager who will take the reins from Klopp who has left the club after nine incredible years.
He inherits a very impressive squad and it remains to be seen who fits into the Dutchman’s plans, with reports suggesting that he will build his team around forwards Salah and Darwin Nunez.
But the Egyptian King has been tipped to leave Anfield as he enters the last year of his contract, with clubs from the Saudi Pro League primed to once again make a mega money offer.
Asked if Slot would be able to get the best out of Nunez, who has somewhat underwhelmed at Anfield, Murphy said on talkSPORT: ‘It depends if Salah stays or goes as well.
‘If Salah goes, they’ll bring another person in, someone’s going to have to step up and get 25 goals. I wouldn’t sell Salah unless he’s saying, “I want to go”.
Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze have scored 21 goals and made 12 assists between them this season (Photo: Getty)
‘It depends on the amount. He’s 31 years old, £100million comes in and he wants to go, he’s got to go.’
Asked who could replace the prolific winger, Murphy added: ‘If I got £100million for Salah, I’d give the £100million to Palace and take Olise and Eze, I’d get two for the price of one.’
Winger Olise and attacking midfielder Eze are two of the hottest properties in the Premier League right now, with their outstanding form under Oliver Glasner propelling Palace from relegation contenders to a top-half finish.

Since the new manager arrived in February, the pair have a combined 10 goals and six assists in just 19 appearances, and though Olise was controversially snubbed by France, Eze is in the frame to be called-up for England’s Euro 2024 squad.
Liverpool would face difficulty signing either or both however, given the strong interest in the players, particularly from rivals Manchester United who have long had an eye on 22-year-old Olise.
Moreover, the Eagles want at least £60m for each player, and it is said that neither are pushing to leave Selhurst Park and are currently committed to the new project under Glasner.

Virgin van Dijk speaks out on Liverpool future ahead of Arne Slot’s arrival
Virgil van Dijk has twelve months left on his contract (Picture: Getty)
Virgil van Dijk claims he has not been offered a new contract by Liverpool but insists he is looking forward to welcoming Arne Slot to Anfield next season.
Van Dijk cut an emotional figure at the weekend as Liverpool bid farewell to Jurgen Klopp after the German drew to a close his nine-year spell as the club’s manager.
The Dutchman has become a lynchpin of Klopp’s side since his arrival from Southampton in January 2018 but faces an uncertain future at the club with just 12 months left on his current contract.
However, Van Dijk was keen to brush aside questions about his Liverpool future in the aftermath of Klopp’s departure and said that now was not the time to worry about his future.
‘My future is not important at the moment. At the moment there is nothing for me to say,’ Van Dijk said following his side’s 2-0 victory over Wolves to end the season.
‘Nothing has changed and nothing is on the table either. No changes in my situation at all.
‘The only thing I can say now is if I have a farewell I don’t think I would keep it dry [not cry] because that was something I was very surprised with with him [Klopp].’

Liverpool are set to bring in current Feyenoord boss Slot to replace Klopp, with the German even chanting his successor’s name during his farewell speech.
When asked his opinions on his new boss, Van Dijk said: ’I am very curious and have a lot of questions all the time.
‘We will see; the Premier League and Liverpool is obviously a different ball game but we are here for him, I’ll be here for him whatever he needs.

Darwin Nunez slammed for not clapping Jurgen Klopp during guard of honour after final Liverpool game
Jurgen Klopp was given a guard of honour by Liverpool’s players and staff (Getty)
Darwin Nunez has been slammed by Liverpool supporters after he failed to applaud Jurgen Klopp during his guard of honour at Anfield on Sunday.
Klopp said farewell to Liverpool fans on the final day of the Premier League season, calling time on his nine-year stint in the Premier League.
The 56-year-old, who guided Liverpool to seven major trophies during his time at Anfield, was given a guard of honour by players and staff following the 2-0 win at home to Wolves.
Video footage from a Liverpool supporter shows every player clapping Klopp as he walked by, however, Nunez stood with his arms down and with one hand over the other.
Liverpool supporters also noticed Nunez’s demeanour during Klopp’s speech to the squad inside the dressing room after the game as the Uruguay international sat there at one point with his head in his hand and, once again, did not applaud the German.

After watching the footage, one Liverpool supporter wrote on X: ‘Get him gone. Haven’t seen a player given so much love by the fans and manager and yet be so ungrateful.’
Another Liverpool fan wrote: ‘To those saying it’s not a big deal, it really is. I love Nunez as a player – he is electric. But this isn’t a player issue. This is a character issue. Just clap. It’s simple.
‘If he can’t figure that out or, even worse, didn’t clap intentionally, then we need to look at if he is a fit for Liverpool over the summer.’

Nunez, who was signed in an £85 million deal from Benfica in June 2022, sparked speculation over his future earlier this month when he removed all Liverpool-related posts from his Instagram account.
Klopp, however, dismissed rumours of Nunez leaving Liverpool this summer and defended the 24-year-old’s performances this season.
‘He was unlucky in so many situations, where he’s doing everything right, then the ball still doesn’t go in,’ Klopp said.

Promoted sides Leicester City and Ipswich Town are also sure to look to strengthen their squads as they return to the Premier League.

Chelsea and Liverpool should ‘jump at chance’ to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, says Glen Johnson
Gabriel Jesus has been linked with a move away from Arsenal (Picture: Getty)
Chelsea and Liverpool should ‘jump at the chance’ to sign Gabriel Jesus if Arsenal make the striker available this summer, according to Glen Johnson.
It was reported earlier in the month that Arsenal were prepared to listen to offers for the Brazil international, who has endured a frustrating season for Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Jesus has contributed just eight goals this term and been displaced by Kai Havertz, who has regularly been used as a false nine by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
Much was expected of Jesus following his £45m move from Manchester City in 2022 but the 27-year-old has struggled for form and fitness in north London.
Despite his underwhelming stint at Arsenal, ex-Premier League defender Johnson would be surprised if he was put up for sale this summer – but insists he would be a great signing for two of his former clubs.
Chelsea will be in the market for a new striker this summer following Nicolas Jackson’s inconsistent first season at Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool could look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the arrival of new manager Arne Slot.
Asked if Chelsea and Liverpool should make moves for Jesus if he becomes available, Johnson told Betfred: ‘Yes, definitely.

‘I would be surprised if Arsenal do actually want to sell him because I think that would be crazy. If he does become available, either Chelsea or Liverpool should bite their arm off.
‘He’s not going to get you 25-goals-a-season, but he’s going to be a big part of the team and he works his socks off. In front of goal, he’s going to score a lot of goals at a club like that where he’ll get a lot of opportunities.
‘If Arsenal do let him go, then Chelsea and Liverpool should absolutely jump at the chance.’

While Jesus may be frustrated at Arsenal given his lack of form and game-time, Arteta has refuted claims he could be sold in the summer transfer window.
Asked at a pre-match press conference earlier in the month if the reports about Arsenal potentially selling Jesus were accurate, Arteta shook his head and replied: ‘I don’t know where this is coming from.’
Probed further on whether he has any intention of letting Jesus leave this summer, Arteta said: ‘No. no.’
Before joining Arsenal almost two years ago, Jesus enjoyed five successful years at Manchester City, scoring 95 goals and helping the Sky Blues win four Premier League titles.

Darwin Nunez fuels Liverpool exit rumours with major Instagram update
Darwin Nunez has raised doubts over his Liverpool future (Getty)
Darwin Nunez has fuelled speculation over his Liverpool future after he deleted all photos relating to the club on his Instagram account on Sunday evening.
The 24-year-old has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season but has come under fire from pundits and Liverpool supporters due to his inconsistency in front of goal.
Nunez, who was signed in an £85 million deal from Benfica in June 2022, still has four years remaining on his contract with Liverpool and was linked with a move to Barcelona over the weekend.
Liverpool supporters are now concerned that this may be Nunez’s final season at Anfield after spotting late on Sunday night that the Uruguay international had removed all pictures of himself playing for Liverpool on his official Instagram page.
All that remained were family photos and those from his games played for Benfica and Uruguay’s national side.
Darwin Nunez’s official Instagram page had no Liverpool photos on Sunday night (Instagram)
Nunez has started as a substitute for Liverpool’s last two Premier League games and has just one goal in his last 11 appearances in all competitions.
In his last start for Liverpool, Nunez missed an excellent chance to equalise against Everton before Sean Dyche’s side went on to seal a 2-0 win at Goodison Park.
During his analysis, Jamie Carragher described the miss as ‘unforgiveable’ and raised doubt over the striker’s long-term suitability for Liverpool.
‘The chance that Nunez misses before half-time, that is unforgivable at this level. That is not acceptable at this level, certainly when Liverpool are going for the title,’ Carragher said.

‘I think there is a question to ask. You want him to do well because there is so much that you like because he gives everything, he runs and causes trouble and gets the odd goal and gets an assist.
‘But after two years when Liverpool this season are going to the title and those big games, you need your man to score away at Old Trafford, away at Goodison, in the European game at Atalanta. There is no time to waste, this is not October or November. This is the business end.
‘In terms of Nunez and where the club go forward now, we have all been in squads where someone comes in and maybe you talk about the first year and maybe say, okay he’s getting up to speed with and he’s improving, and it looked like he was at the start of the season. But it has ground to a halt.’

Barcelona eyeing up shock move for Darwin Nunez four years after failing to sign Liverpool star

Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has reportedly emerged as a shock target for Barcelona with both clubs set for a big summer of change.
It is expected that there will be a huge clear out of players at Barcelona due to their salary cap being slashed to £174million by La Liga.
As a result, star player and top earner Robert Lewandowski, who pockets £27m-a-season, is likely to be sold.
Though he will turn 36 in August, the Poland captain is still considered one of the best strikers in the world, scoring 24 and assisting nine in 45 games this season, and it will be a tough task to replace him.
And according to The Sun, Barcelona have identified Nunez as a possible replacement, having come very close to signing the forward four years ago when he was at Almeria.
Though one of Liverpool’s best paid players, Nunez is currently on wages of around £7m which makes him an affordable target and the Spanish giants are hopeful a deal can be done.
It seems unlikely that the Reds will sell however, given that they only signed the Uruguay international from Benfica two years ago in a deal worth up to £85m – a club record.

The 24-year-old has a contract until 2028 and is very happy at Anfield, though some reports suggest the idea of playing for Barcelona is an appealing one to him.
But nothing can be ruled out, especially with Arne Slot set to take the reins from Jurgen Klopp at the end of the campaign, with Liverpool hoping to provide the new manager with a decent transfer budget.
As such, they may be inclined to make one big sale, and Nunez could be the ideal candidate if they receive the right offer and especially if the forward doesn’t fit into Slot’s plans.

Nunez has split opinion during his time at Anfield, with his tenacity and physical prowess praised, though he continues to miss huge chances which have cost his side dear in certain games.
He has so far recorded 33 goals and 17 assists in 93 appearances for the club, but has hit the woodwork nine times this season, nearly double more than any other Premier League player, and missed 26 big chances – behind only Erling Haaland.
Aside from Nunez, Liverpool could offload talisman Mohamed Salah should they receive another monster bid from the Saudi Pro League, but it is said that they don’t plan to do so even after the Egyptian King’s recent bust-up with Klopp.

Luis Diaz is a perfect fit for Liverpool, says Javier Mascherano

Javier Mascherano says Luis Diaz is a ‘great player’ and hopes the forward stays on at Liverpool amid rumours he could leave to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.
Diaz completed a £37.5million move to Liverpool back in 2022 and has gone on to score 24 goals in 89 games for the Reds, helping the club win an FA Cup, two Carabao Cup titles and a Community Shield.
However, speculation has been mounting that Diaz could be set for the exit door at the end of the campaign, with Ligue 1 champions PSG credited a with a strong interest in the 27-year-old attacker.
It’s understood Barcelona have also been keeping tabs on Diaz’s situation, though a move could prove tricky for the Catalan giants given their difficult financial situation.
Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure has only added to the uncertainty and Diaz’s father fuelled rumours that the Colombian could be on his way out of Anfield last month, talking up a move to Spain.
‘There was never anything serious with Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid,’ Diaz senior told Cadena Ser.
‘Liverpool were always more determined and concrete to sign Luis. We haven’t lost our hope yet… Luis is playing well and Spanish clubs are always active in the market.’

Diaz still has over three years remaining on his current deal at Anfield and Liverpool view the Colombia international as an integral player for the future, in the post-Klopp era.
According to Mascherano, Diaz is a perfect fit for Liverpool and the club should be doing everything in their power to ensure the forward stays put.
‘He is a great player, very decisive when it comes to playing, especially in one-on-one duels,’ Mascherano told Colombia’s Antena 2.
‘The truth is that I think he has arrived at a team that fits him just right.’

The legendary ex-Liverpool, Barcelona and Argentina midfielder is a huge admirer of Diaz, who he believes ‘leaves everything on the field’ when playing for club and country.

‘That is why I think he fits in exactly where he has arrived.’
