Netherlands goalkeeper Justin Bijlow admits it is flattering to be linked with ‘very nice clubs’ Liverpool and Arsenal and has refused to confirm he will remain at Feyenoord beyond the summer.

Bijlow, 26, has emerged as a target for Premier League rivals Liverpool and Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp’s replacement Arne Slot is keen to bring Bijlow to Anfield following his move from Feyenoord, with the shot-stopper viewed as ideal back-up to Liverpool No. 1 Alisson.

Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher has performed that role over the last few seasons but is expected to push for a move away from Anfield in order to get more game-time.

Arsenal are also expected to sign a new goalkeeper this summer with England international Aaron Ramsdale set to leave, potentially to Newcastle United.

Mikel Arteta signed David Raya on loan at the start of the season and the Spaniard will put pen to paper on a permanent move in the coming weeks after an impressive first 12 months in north London.

Bijlow has made more than 100 league appearances for boyhood club Feyenoord but has refused to commit his long-term future to the Dutch giants as Liverpool and Arsenal circle.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Voetbalzone, he said: ‘Would I stay at Feyenoord? You never know, do you? That’s football. You don’t know that.

‘I’m ambitious, I’ve always said that. If the opportunity presents itself and a good club comes from abroad, I am open to it. I’ve always said that.

‘As long as I am under contract with Feyenoord, that is never a punishment and I will give everything as long as I play there.’

Asked specifically about the interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, Bijlow added: ‘Those are two very nice clubs.

‘Of course it is always nice to be mentioned at big clubs. What I’m just saying: I’m ambitious. As long as I play for Feyenoord I will give everything for that and first I just want to focus on the Dutch team.’

Bijlow will hope to impress at Euro 2024 after being selected in the Netherlands’ provisional squad for the tournament along with fellow goalkeepers Mark Flakken, Bart Verbruggen and Nick Olij.

The Netherlands, currently managed by Ronaldo Koeman, won the Euros in 1988 but have struggled in their last three outings and did not even qualify for the 2016 tournament.

They have threatened at three of the last four World Cups, however, finishing as runners-up in 2010 and reaching the latter stages in 2014 and 2022.

Seven points separated Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League last season, with the Gunners narrowly missing out on the title and the Reds finishing third in Klopp’s final season at the club.
