Liverpool are considering options for a new sporting director following Richard Hughes’ departure
Liverpool have begun the process of identifying a new sporting director following Richard Hughes’ departure from the club.
Hughes officially stepped down from his position after completing the summer transfer window, bringing his two-year spell at Anfield to an end. He is expected to take up a new role with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
According to reports, Liverpool’s search is being led by FSG president Mike Gordon. The club are considering candidates from within their existing football structure, while an external appointment has not been ruled out.
Among the internal options being considered are assistant sporting director David Woodfine, FSG technical director Julian Ward and director of football development Pedro Marques. The trio are expected to retain their existing responsibilities while Liverpool assess the best solution for the vacant position.
An indication have not been made for a specific timeframe for appointing Hughes’ successor. Liverpool's football structure will continue to operate during the search as the Reds' 2026/27 campaign continue.
