Richard Hughes has stepped down from his position as Liverpool’s sporting director after two years in the role
Hughes joined Liverpool in 2024 from Bournemouth, where he had previously worked as technical director. During his time at Anfield, he was involved in the club’s recruitment strategy and worked closely with the football department on transfers and squad planning.
His departure comes shortly after the conclusion of the summer transfer window. Liverpool are yet to confirm details of the club’s plans for the sporting director position or whether a direct replacement will be appointed immediately.
Hughes is now expected to move on to a new role away the club, bringing his two-year spell at the club to an end.
Liverpool will now assess the structure of their sporting department as they prepare for the remainder of the 2026/27 season.
