Lewis Koumas Makes First Premier League Start for Liverpool Against Manchester City
Lewis Koumas made his first Premier League start for Liverpool in Sunday's meeting with Manchester City, receiving an opportunity to lead the Reds' attack at Anfield.
The 21-year-old Wales international was selected by manager Andoni Iraola following injuries to Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo during international duty. The decision provided the young forward with an opportunity to demonstrate his qualities against one of Premier League's strongest sides.
Koumas showed some promise against City, with one of his second-half efforts forcing goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma into a save after the shot took a deflection.
The Reds eventually lost 3-0, with Gravenberch's second yellow card proving a turning point in the match. Koumas was substituted in the 75th minute as Andoni Iraola made further changes to his side.
Despite the result, the start represents an important opportunity for the youngster. And he could be in line for another start if Isak and Gakpo are not passed fit Wednesday's Champions League clash with LASK.
