Mane picked up two yellow cards in the AFCON qualification where Senegal won 1-0 against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo on November 17 and in a 2-0 win over Madagascar on March 23.

The Liverpool superstar will now sit out the competitions' first Group C fixture which will take place on June 23 in Cairo - as confirmed by Senegal's head coach Aliou Cisse.

Cisse told Senegalese media prior to their departure to training camp in Alicante in Spain for Egypt: "His absence should not in any way bother us.

"CAF [Confederation of African Football] have decided, so we will not linger.

"Certainly, with Sadio we would be very good, but even without him we will be very good."

The tournament hosted in Egypt which is scheduled for 21 June to 19 July, will be Mane's third Nations Cup finals and the second time he will miss the Terranga Lions' opening match.

He firstly missed their opener in the 2015 against Ghana in Equatorial Guinea, because he was still recovering from a calf injury he sustained while playing for his former club Southampton.
