Liverpool begin preparations for Club World Cup tie in Doha

Liverpool trained in Qatar for the first time on Monday evening ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final with Monterrey

The Reds landed in Doha on Sunday evening before being put through their paces by Jürgen Klopp and his coaching staff at the University Stadium a day later.

Every player in the travelling party was present at the session apart from colossal centre-back Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum, who is suffering with a niggling muscle injury.

Anfield sources remain tight lipped over why Van Dijk was not present and taking part with the rest of his team-mates.

If the Dutchman is unable to prepare or unable to play for Liverpool in the competition, it will be a big blow given the magnitude of his influence on matches and those around him.

Whatever the case, Klopp will be hoping he is available for the match on December 18 which is set to take place at the Khalifa International Stadium.
