The Reds will now have to wait to lift the trophy with a win against Crystal Palace after Manchester City's 3-0 win over Arsenal.

If Manchester City had lost to Arsenal on Wednesday evening, then the Reds would have been able to wrap up the title with a win over Merseyside rivals Everton this weekend.

However, the Gunners let down the Reds in their bid to do so.

Nicolas Arteta's men had made a bright start against City, but had it cut short when Pablo Mari was replaced by David Luiz after picking up an injury.

Twenty plus five minutes following Luiz coming-in to the game, the Brazilian managed to make an error leading to Raheem Sterling scoring City's opener.

Luiz also gave away a penalty which caused him to be red carded by referee Anthony Taylor.

Some Liverpool fans took to social media after  the game to blame the former Chelsea man for Arsenal's lost and letting down the Reds goal of winning the top-flight title at Goodison Park.

One fan wrote: "How has Luiz managed to let down fanbase of 2 clubs with a single performance."

Another added: "David Luiz is clearly on a mission to delay the title for #LFC."

A third said: "That will be David #Luiz confirmed as Evertons player of the season then."

A fourth wrote: “It's remarkable, really, how error prone the man is. He's back with a bang here is David Luiz. Such irrational defending, and to think we were counting on him and Arsenal to do us a favour tonight."
