Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson has reportedly been sacked by Sky Sports
Thompson and fellow Soccer Saturday pundits Matt Le Tissier and Charlie Nicholas were reportedly dismissed from their post on Tuesday.
According to the Mirror, Sky Sports, the British subscription sport channel operated by TV company Sky have been cutting staff numbers recently, and the three pundits were sacked on Tuesday.
The TV company confirmed the news on Wednesday evening saying: "Matt, Charlie and Phil have done a great job for us over the years, and they will leave us with our sincere thanks and very best wishes."
It's understood that Matt Le Tissier had come under criticism recently for sharing his thoughts on coronavirus and the government response on social media in recent weeks.
Le Tissier urged fans to “look beyond the headlines and government propaganda” in a lengthy post on Twitter.
Following Sky's pronouncement on Tuesday, Tissier took to social media to thank fans for their support over the years.
"Thank you for the support down the years and special thanks to the backroom team which include @CazzaEccles @CarlyBassett @tvtrevstats amongst many others, good luck all have a lovely day."
