Phil Thompson: Jurgen Klopp made huge mistake on Brewster decision

Phil Thompson thinks Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made a wrong choice letting Brewster leave Anfield

Jurgen Klopp should've kept Rhian Brewster, Phil Thompson give his verdict.

Rhian Brewster joined Sheffield United in a £23.5million permanent deal last week.

The deal included a sell-on and buyback clauses which could help balance books for the Reds in a summer dominated by the affect of coronavirus on their finances.

Brewster, 20, was seen as an exciting attacking option at Anfield, and he had hoped to progress at the club after scoring 11 goals in 22 games on loan at Swansea City last season.

Thompson feels the England youth forward wasn't the right man to sell as he cited two of Reds senior players who should have been let out.

"On the outgoings, I'm disappointed that they decided to let Rhian Brewster go," Thompson told Paddy Power .

"I’d like him to have stayed. I can see some of the reasons why, but if you were asking me whether to go with Brewster or Divock Origi, for me, it’d be Origi going.

"But on the football side, I can see he isn’t playing as many games, so maybe it’ll get him that first-team experience.

"There's not too many forwards that have the aggression that Brewster has though.

"Maybe the outgoings haven’t gone the way they’d like – but the incomings have been really good."
