Luis Diaz father explains why his son chose Liverpool over Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool swooped in ahead of Tottenham Hotspur to sign Porto winger Luis Diaz during the January transfer window

Luis Diaz's first impressions of Liverpool have been revealed following his January move to the club.

The 25-year-old made his debut for the Reds as a second half substitute against Cardiff City on Sunday, providing an assist during his cameo appearance in a 3-1 FA Cup victory.

Jurgen Klopp's side fought off competition from other European sides to secure the services of Diaz, who will be hoping to challenge for a place in the starting-eleven in the coming weeks.

Prior to securing his Anfield switch, the Colombia international had twice faced off against the Reds in the group stages of this season's Champions League.

Now a member of the side, Diaz's father - Luis Manuel Diaz- has made clear that his son possesses an understanding of what it means to represent Liverpool.

"After the first game, he told me that it was a team that works hard, complete, in which he will feel comfortable and will have the chance to play with high-performance players," he told Colombian radio station Bluradio .

It's no secret that Klopp's side stepped in ahead of Tottenham Hotspur to strengthen their attacking options, with Daniel Levy understood to be furious with how the situation played out.

Diaz's dad has shed light on the situation, claiming the Lilywhites scuppered their chances of finalising a deal having 'hesitated' during negotiations.

"There were many suitors who wanted Luis' services, but he had the dream of reaching Liverpool. Because Liverpool are an elite team," he explained.

"Tottenham was one. Roma was also left behind in the process. They hesitated a lot and let themselves be caught by Liverpool. Liverpool were faster than them, they needed him and they took him away."
